If this is you: "I
am a senior manager and I want to have a breakthrough in my personal leadership
style." here's
how I could help you...
Becoming an effective leader is a challenging process which lasts a lifetime,
takes considerable effort, and at some point along the way requires
significant personal change. No matter what your natural leadership style, if
you want to become the best leader you possibly can, you must develop yourself
on a personal level.
Not every leader is interested or willing to
go through this change process, but for those that are, coaching is an excellent
way to speed up and smooth the way.
How would I help you?
1) Help you identify exactly what you want to
change. I do this through a combination of:
- In-depth discussions with you about your
strengths and weaknesses, the situations you are facing and the end point you
wish to achieve;
- Discussions and goal-setting processes with
you and your supervisor or corporate sponsor;
- Assessments which benchmark your skills and traits for your
corporate function while giving insight into your personal obstacles;
- Surveys or interviews with your colleagues
and subordinates;
- Shadow coaching (watching you in action) to
give you honest, unbiased specific feedback and suggestions.
2) Help you devise a strategy and actions
which will lead you to your goals. This work may include:
- Identifying the root causes behind what
makes the change difficult;
- Laying out step-by-step changes and
practical actions;
- Forming alliances with key individuals in
your workplace who can give you ongoing feedback on your progress;
- Advising on strategies, models and tools.
3) Support you as you make the changes. I
would help by:
- Addressing obstacles and difficulties as
they arise;
- Providing conceptual and practical models to
assist with implementation;
- Brainstorming customized solutions;
- Giving feedback on your plans and progress
as they develop;
- Support you during setbacks and unforeseen
consequences.
4) Ensure the changes are effective and
sustainable. This can be accomplished by:
- Reviewing and clarifying the changes you
have made;
- Checking the perspectives of colleagues and
subordinates to ensure the change is having the desired impact;
- Reassessing your results and setting
continuing goals with your supervisor or corporate sponsor;
- Arranging for continuing support either
internally or externally.
Throughout this process, I will work to ensure
all parties involved understand my role and that your complete confidentiality
is assured.

After
a 360 degree assessment, the senior
manager of the Hong Kong branch
of a European multi-national corporation
realized she had to develop her
abilities to connect and fully
communicate with her staff. After
6 months of coaching, subordinates
noted significant positive changes
in her ability to connect with
them, empower them and create
a harmonious and productive team
environment. At the same
time, she achieved record-breaking
sales in her division.
-
A
Hong Kong-based senior manager
of a European multi-national corporation
was overwhelmed by work, frustrated
by his boss and felt he was on
a treadmill with no end. After
initial discussions and assessment,
we realized he needed to raise
his level of assertiveness and
improve his delegation. At the
heart of his problems was a low
level of self-acceptance which
made him self-critical and which
interfered with his interpersonal
communications. Over 9 months
of coaching, he made significant
changes to greatly reduce his
levels of stress and regain control
over his career.
-
The
Director of a China division of
a European multi-national corporation
was working longer and longer
hours to try to get on top of
his increasing responsibilities
in a rapidly growing and changing
division. Lack of rest was decreasing
his self-confidence and leading
to continuing problems in managing
staff, delegating and managing
his powerbase within the changing
corporate structure. Over 9 months
of coaching, he implemented changes
to his thinking habits which allowed
him to shift his focus to higher-level
issues. As his attention shifted
to more important issues, he was
able to spend more time positively
influencing his staff and networking
with key corporate power brokers.
One year after beginning the coaching
process, he negotiated his own
transfer to a much more ideal
position within the same corporation.
